Dr. Robert Antolak – The Gentle Dentist
Hi, this is Dr. Antolak from the gentledentist.com in Shelby Township, Michigan. Today what I want to do is just to talk a little bit about who I am.
I’ve been in the practice of dentistry for 27 years now. I graduated from the University of Michigan in 1987 and dentistry has been my passion.
Actually, at the age of eight years old, I had a desire to be a dentist. I was talked to by my father and he just had a talk he was, he worked at Ford Motor Company in the design center there but he knew that it was a great profession. And I don’t believe that I could’ve, that God could’ve put me into a better profession where I can use my own talents and abilities in the way that I do. It gives us the ability to affect people in a very positive way. To change the appearance of their mouth. To change their smile. There whole inner being starts to show and be and they feel good about themselves. For me personally, that’s the best thing I ever did.
I am married to my wife and I have a son Matthew who’s 12 and my daughter Grace is 13 and they’re both a delight. We adopted both of them from China, and they’re real blessing to us as a family.
I am involved with Faith Lutheran Church in Troy, Michigan. I’ve been a member there for 20 years and I’m on the board of the church council and that council. I’ve also been very involved with missions there for about the last 15 years. For 13 years, I’ve been going to Haiti and performing dentistry to the poor there one to two weeks per year and had been very blessed by the ability to serve those who don’t have the opportunity to have any options or any other access to dental care.
Also, I am board member of Trinity Community Care which is a free medical and dental clinical in Shelby Township, Michigan. That was whole thing was generated and thought up through these mission trips in Haiti so we have that set up and I’m kind of busy with that. My wife Polly, who’s also a social worker is also very involved with that and spends a lot of time with treating those who are under served in our local community.
For fun, I love playing hockey. I play about three sometimes four times a week, and it helps to relieve stress and it is also something that, it’s just I’m good at it and it helps keep me healthy and give me the energy required to do dentistry.
Also, I like to golf and fish. If I have the time and that’s a lot of fun too.
I just enjoy the field of dentistry so much. It’s something that I have a lot of energy for it and it is something that I feel God has really given me the ability to help people in a very compassionate way.
